The conceptual design service has been developed to provide the very first phase of a design where drawings are the primary focus, which are comprised of simple plans and sections of a concept. These simple drawings should be able to lend themselves easily to more specific sets of plans. The bottom line is that a good conceptual design will be comprise of the creation of an idea, the exploration of the intentions of an idea and the representation of an idea.
A conceptual design can be performed from a CAD drawing, Jpeg or from a PDF of a building structure or any space as it may be indoor or outdoor. If the concepts are not clearly drawn out, the idea will not be understood completely and the end result will be compromised. These conceptual designs may range to be truly conceptual and not practical to design mirroring the finished design in whole, not in part.
Illumination calculations and Rendering services may be split into two categories of services.
Illumination Calculations, are performed by adding light fixtures ie: luminaires to a space, room, structure or to an urbane space to provide light. Point-by-point calculation method is used for better results to provide light levels on a surface, workplane or object.
Illuminance is the total amount of visible light illuminating (incident upon) a point on a surface from all directions above the surface. This "surface" can be a physical surface or an imaginary plane. Therefore, illuminance is equivalent to irradiance weighted with the response curve of the human eye. Standard unit for illuminance is Lux (lx) which is lumens per square meter (lm/m2) or a more familiar standard unit is the footcandle (fc).
Renderings, are performed by adding surface textures and finishes to a space, room, structure or to an Urbane area mostly performed in 3D for a more realistic affect. 3D rendering is a creative process that is similar to photography or cinematography, because you are lighting and staging scenes and producing images.
Unlike regular photography, however, the scenes being photographed are imaginary, and everything appearing in a 3D rendering needs to be created (or re-created) in the computer before it can be rendered. This is a lot of work, but allows for an almost infinite amount of creative control over what appears in the scene, and how it is depicted.
Lighting Assesments and studies is the study of the affect of the existing lighting system luminaires its environment. This study may include the day-light study implementation of control sensors or the study and affect of the existing luminaire light rays on humans, computer screens and or video conferencing. This study can show points of high or low illumination levels. These low/high points may be shown in pseudo colors or actual numerical point-by-point intensities.
Pseudo Color Exposure Control is actually a lighting analysis tool that provides you with an intuitive way of visualizing and evaluating the lighting levels. These studies may be performed from any lighting system inside a buildings such as offices or underground parking garages or outdoor such as urbane development, parking lots or outdoor structures.
Electrical Lighting Audits is the study of the existing lighting systems and there energy consumption ie: Hydro. This type of study will determine the viability to convert the existing lighting system or to replace the existing by new more efficient luminaires. This type of study may be performed on entire buildings or any item/product that consume electrical energy.
Payback period is calculated as a part of this service to provide financial feasibility of the recommendations. This study helps determine if the system qualifies for an energy rebate.
Luminaire schedules provides a list of luminaires suggested for the project with details such as dimensions, technical details and specifications as well as where they are used on the project. Images of the luminaires may be included as well listing their electrical consumption.
Mockups and Site measurements may be performed on site for the existing luminaires weither new or old to determine their performance or to provide proof of concept and/or design. Mock-ups are mostly performed on new none-existing systems to determine if the luminaires and control system chosen will work and perform as specified for the entire project.
Mockups are commonly required by designers, architects, and end users for custom luminairs, furniture and cabinetry. The intention is often to produce a full sized replica, using inexpensive materials in order to verify a design. Mockups are often used to determine the proportions of the piece, relating to various dimensions of the piece itself, or to fit the piece into a specific space or room. The ability to see how the design of the piece relates to the rest of the space is also an important factor in determining size and design.
When designing a functional piece of furniture, such as a desk or table, mockups can be used to test whether they suit typical human shapes and sizes. Designs that fail to consider these issues may not be practical to use. Mockups can also be used to test color, finish, and design details which cannot be visualized from the initial drawings and sketches. Mockups used for this purpose can be on a reduced scale.
The cost of making mockups is often more than repaid by the savings made by avoiding large purchases or going into production with a design which needs improvement
